Diploma in Photography & Image Editing Syllabus

The Diploma in Photography & Image Editing is a structured, six-month course, divided into three months of photography and three months of image editing. This program is tailored to equip students with in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in both capturing and enhancing images, preparing them for a successful career in visual arts and digital media.

In the Photography module, spanning the first three months, students will begin by mastering the basics of handling a DSLR and mirrorless cameras, understanding their components, and exploring various shooting modes such as automatic, semi-automatic, and manual modes. Key concepts such as aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and the exposure triangle are thoroughly covered, allowing students to gain confidence in manual controls. Moving forward, students delve into metering modes, exposure compensation, and white balance, learning to adjust settings to capture vibrant, high-quality images in any lighting condition. The course emphasizes composition techniques, including the rule of thirds and symmetry, which are essential for creating visually compelling shots. As students progress, they will explore specialized photography styles, such as natural light, low-light, and outdoor flash photography. Studio lighting setups are introduced, covering one-point, two-point, and three-point lighting, as well as advanced techniques like Rembrandt, high-key, and low-key lighting, Product Photography, Food Photography  all of which add depth and drama to photography. By the end of the photography module, students will have a chance to complete a final project, demonstrating their understanding of concepts and techniques across different photography genres.

The second phase of the course, Image Editing, focuses on transforming and enhancing images using powerful editing tools and software over a period of three months. Students begin by familiarizing themselves with core tools such as the move, selection, and pen tools. They then learn to manipulate backgrounds, resize images for various purposes, and create vector art outlines and colored vector images using the pen tool. A comprehensive study of retouching tools follows, covering the spot healing brush, clone stamp, and brush tools, which are essential for repairing and refining images. The module also covers creative uses for brushes, including the design of custom backgrounds and the conversion of black-and-white images to color, an invaluable skill in restoration work. Students will explore masking techniques and image adjustments, such as levels, color balance, selective color, and exposure, which are used for color correction and mood enhancement. High-end retouching methods are also introduced, equipping students with techniques for professional-grade editing. As the course progresses, students learn about gradients, the text tool, typography, and layer effects such as drop shadow, glow, and bevel. They will apply these skills in creating social media posters, business cards, flyers, and other marketing materials, using principles of design for aesthetically pleasing compositions. Specialized modules in Tamil typing, digital painting with brushes, and poster design for cinema and corporate branding further broaden the students' skill set. Finally, students will explore animation, workflow automation with actions, and album designing, which includes layout and color selection strategies. The course concludes with an integrated final project, enabling students to showcase their mastery in both photography and image editing.
